THIS THREAD IS OUTDATED
The trading basics stay the same. The rates (esp. for Goldens) below are no longer accurate. They may be used to compare the 04/2011 value to the current 2013 value
but
Please do not post.

Update: 08-14-2011 - The Perky System became quite a flop, and of course there was Poe's assault on rates. Looks like the rating system is back (partly due to Fading) so yeah, I restored the rating slab.

New people join TPPC every day; some even decide to take a venture here into Trainers Corner. But there's a problem - many don't read a few guides and stuff before they join.
This guide goes through everything that new people need to know about - from basic rules, to the more important terms such as CAT, HTT and 1x.
Some of you may argue that the "What is my [Pokemon] worth?" sticky may do some of this for me, but this goes into deeper detail than just terms.
Contents:
I. Basic Rules - Trading/Posting
II. Types of Pokemon
III. Ratings, how they apply, and trading terms
IV. Basic conversion rates
V. Some Pokemons' rates
VI. Anything else.
Chapter I - Basic Rules
This is important, to stop you from landing in trouble with Assistants/Moderators such as
Piggachew,
Darkheart, and
elris.
Quote:
Posting rules:
1) Don't make your title mainly full of capital letters. They'll be edited out by mods/assistants.
2) Don't bump until 20 minutes have passed since you last bumped.
3) Don't double post, which ties into rule 2.
4) Don't flame, or use insulting language.
5) Let everybody have a chance to offer.. don't exclude certain people like new people in the rules of your thread.
6) If somebody says no, don't keep harrasing them to say yes.
7) Don't spam, unless the thread owner allows you to.
8) Finally, link yourself! This can be done by visiting the TPPC ID area of the site. Mods will close your thread if you set a trade thread without being linked.

Trading rules (Unofficial)
These 'rules' are quickly learnt upon; but don't get you banned by breaking them - people may start hating you if you do.
9) Try not to create trades to people without telling them. They might deny the trade, even if it's really good.
10) Try to learn rates (some are listed in section V) before offering stuff.
|
Edit: (04-08-11) It's come to my attention that I need to mention grammar.. I know it may sound offending but those who used "laxed grammar" like:
'ur 2.3k for 1.8k + 1k add, lyk dis?'
often have a harder time in the trades forum and easily get called nub or n00b or whatever pretty soon. :/ Try to at least use proper grammar.. I know that may sound offending but, seems sensible. :/
Chapter II - Types of Pokemon
Map Pokemon
An ordinary, non-special Pokemon catchable on maps.
Swaps
Available from Secret Swap. Unless they're Level 1000 or above, not many people will be interested in these. They're worth their level.
(eg a Level 63 swap = Level 63)
However, some people collect certain swaps and will often pay multiple swaps for one of their desired swaps; eg 3 swaps for your DarkBellossom.
S Duskull = ShinyDuskull
D Aipom = DarkAipom
G Meowth = GoldenMeowth
Promo
A Pokemon recently been available to almost anyone on TPPC eg DarkDuskull, ShinyDelibird, ShinyStantler, DarkDrowzee. Unfortunately it's not easy anymore to tell if a Pokemon has been of recent promo thanks to no updated sticky in FAQ about trainer Promos. However, checking the rarity or this list may help verify a promo or not:
Torterra/Shiftry/Charizard/Wigglytuff/Banette (at level 5)
S/D Weedle
S/D Azurill
- swap
S/D Wurmple
S/D Torkoal
- swap
D Nincada
S Delibird
- swap
S Grumpig
- swap
D Poochyena
- swap
S Stantler
D Drowzee
D Heracross
- swap
Shedinja
(normal) - common nonswap
D Cubone
D Duskull
S Eevee
- considered unob, but was very rare promo
S Trapinch
- swap
S Mareep
- swap
S Breloom
- swap
S Porygon-Z
- swap
Note that Promos (above) that have swap next to them still rate a swap to most people.
Unobs // Non-Swaps
These aren't available from Secret Swap, but have not been promo recently either. Any Pokemon that falls into this category is usually an unob; such as S. Wigglytuff, D. Cleffa, S. Shuppet and D. Ledian.
Rates vary from person to person, or time to time; S. Espeon can be rated 1.8-2.2k varying on the person (rate accurate October 2010).
Many people don't want unobs, but sometimes have a few for trade. Unobs are often rare - S/D Sunkern are rarer than G Poliwag and it's evos put together but still rate less. This is where if rates were based on rarity these would rate way more than Golds. But the current system isn't like that, so..
(?)s
These Pokemon are special Pokemon. Out since (or even before) v4, these Pokemon had no gender selected by their owners when v5 came out, so remained with a gender labelled (?). This means
Ungendered in the Rarity List, and often referred to as U. These usually go for Pokemon rated above Level 1000.
eg Kirlia (?) is a U Pokemon.
Edit (04-08-11): Some Pokemon, such as G Delibird/G Wooper/G Meowth (?) are much more common than their gendered counterparts. For example, there are only 9 male G Delibirds and there are 122 (?) ones
(as of date). I suggest investigating the rarity list or using the TPPCTools bot in TPPC chats before assuming that (?) is rarer on a Pokemon.
UE/UG
Means Unevolved (UE) or Ungoldenized (hasn't had a chance to be Goldenized). Worth more than evolved (?)s; eg Sentret (?) rates more than Furret (?).
Genderless
Not usually special, but in certain Pokemon are. Different to (?)-gendered Pokemon, these have a blank Gender label. Some Pokemon are all Genderless such as Porygon, or just a few of the species are genderless eg Kangaskhan, Abra, Delibird.
Silphs
Dark or Shiny versions of Charmander, Bulbasaur or Squirtle, worth huge amounts (1-3x).
These were available as prizes from Silph Co in very early versions of the RPG.
BT Legends
Battle Tower prizes - Giratina, Celebi, Ho-oh, Lugia.
Latios/Latias
The Unown Tower prizes.
New Legends
Any Pokemon that is a 'legend' in the handheld games that was released only when v8 was launched -
S Dialga
Palkia / S Palkia
Uxie / Mesprit / Azelf
Heatran / Deoxys
Arceus
Cresselia / Manaphy
Edit (04-08-11): This part has been fully updated! :)
Baby Tower Prize
Pokemon given when the Baby Tower is beaten - eg Mime Jr, Phione, Riolu.
Dex Pokemon
Pokedex-obtained Pokemon for obtaining a certain percentage of Pokemon in a Pokedex.
eg Manaphy, Cresselia. Considered as 'New Legends'.
Chapter III - Ratings and How they Apply
Rate = What a person thinks a certain Pokemon is worth based on the type of the Pokemon (see above); or how it's obtained.
Trading terms
Levels abbreviations
Quote:
Midlevels = Level 200 - 999
1k = Level 1000 - 1099
1.7k = Level 1700 - 1799

CAT = Create a Trade | Nty = No thank you!
Add = add more worth to the offer | Change = change a certain Pokemon (usually specified)
E = evolved | G = the species as a whole has had chance to be Goldenized in the past
E/G terms apply to normal (?)s only!
1x = Level 2499 | 1k = Level 1000 | 1.5k = Level 1500
|
Quote:
Some people want to complete their Pokedex so will ask to 'borrow' a Pokemon.. if it's very valuable (eg Kyogre), then ask for collateral (one of their Pokemon to safekeep whilst they dex. You give it back when they give your Pokemon back) if you don't trust them with your Pokemon .

Quote:
Trading goes by EXP usually up to 2499, not just by adding 1k + 1k = 2k!

Quote:
Note: You can use Laichans --> Click here! <--- to sum up the worth of your Pokemon in EXP!
But.. you can use it to sum up levels past 2499! if you use the Experience rates.

Chapter VI - Anything Else
Quote:
People often prefer Goldens to levels in the fact that inflation can occur on older golds like GoldenWooper or GoldenDelibird (?).
Levels are an easy way to earn 'x' - a 2.5k (1x) to 3k (4x) generates 3x profit.
One other thing - Raikou, Entei and Suicune can't be traded or sold, but can be secret-swapped.
