I need help with downloading fonts.

I want to download some fonts for GIMP 2.6.7 for banners and other things, but I tried and tried, I got the files and put it onto GIMP -> Fonts, then I tried to go on to GIMP and I tried to get the font I downloaded, but it wasn't there, so how do I download it?

I'm pretty sure you have to refresh the font library... When you open up the tab for fonts, on the bottom, or somewhere, there should be a refresh button. Press that, if it doesn't work, tell me.

I have Windows Vista [Home Premium]

this is what u do
1.go to a website to download fonts like dafont.com or 1001fonts.com
2.pick a font u like
3.press download
4.save file
5.go to the download
6.extract it
7.then right click go to install
8.close gimp (if it was open
9.reopen gimp
10.look for the font it should be there
