Should we call them legends based on how long they've been here or on how much they they influenced TPPC?

Because if the latter is the case, PV3000, Shadowmire, Poe, Norsekerf, and perhaps a couple of others would undoubtedly be under such a title, considering how significant their role is/was in these forums.

I'm sure other members know of more such examples.

Norsekerf can count to infinity. He can also divide by 0. He also knows the logarithm of negative numbers.

Norsekerf can count to infinity.

Dude, counting to infinity simple. 1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and so on. If you want something more rigorous, we can define S(n) to be the successor function, such that S(n) will exist whenever n exists, and say that 1 exists. We then start at one and count by applying the successor function, forever.

What I'd like to see Norsekerf do is count all the real numbers.

I'm not sure which "that" you're talking about?

And in my defence, yesterday was a long day and then I had to get up at 6:30 this morning, and like, you know, be productive throughout the day. Oh, and "aweful" should have an "e" in it, because it just looks right.

e; But now that I actually look at it (I always think of the "e" in there when I write awful, but it never makes it), it doesn't look right. Nevermind that.

in a way yes, but at the same time it is impossible to count backwards let alone fowards to infinite because nobody actually knows what number comes before infinite

You can count backwards from infinity (inf, inf-1, inf-2, inf-3) but you'll never hit a finite number. Though, technically, when you start at one and count up you'll never hit an infinite number.

Oh that's good, I didn't double post then!

e; Also, it's not that we don't know what number comes before infinity, it's just that there just isn't a number that comes before infinity because of the way the natural numbers are defined. Formally, 0 is a natural number and S(n) is a natural number greater than n if n is a natural number, which means that we can always find another natural number higher that what we thought may have been the greatest natural number, and that's right from the definition. Infinity is not a natural number, so you can't possibly hit infinity by counting.

e; … Infinity is the limit of the natural numbers though, so if you were to count on forever you would kinda hit it in a mathematical sense. Counting backwards doesn't work the same because you don't have a number you can start at and go down each step hitting each natural number.

Yay maths!

e; I'm getting all excited now!

That's interesting, this is what Wiktionary says: "Occasionally misspelled as dilemna, perhaps by false analogy with words such as condemn, solemn, and hymn." (so basically we put a silent 'n' after a bunch of 'm's, so, why not? right?)
