A Guide to Training Pokemon.
Alot of people have been asking 'What's the best training Pokemon?'.
So here is a guide to help you. It's an FAQ-type post.
If there are any mistakes please PM me.
Quote:
Where to start?
Well, firstly, most people use a Fighting-type to train on using Blissey Gyms. This is very common but you don't have to use a Fighting-type. All it means is the Pokemon takes longer to beat the same training gym than a fighting-type with equivalent Attack. Why? We find out below.
When training on Blissey Gyms, defeat them using Close Combat!
Why Fighting-Types?
Pokemon that are Fighting-type get something called STAB.
STAB = Same Type Attack Bonus.
This means that, say, a Pokemon uses Close Combat. The damage used by Close Combat is increased by half if the Pokemon that uses it is of all or part Fighting-type, eg Riolu/Lucario.
Something that Striker X has reminded me of is that the move gets the boost, not the Attack stat of the Pokemon. But I'll leave the Attack + STAB figures on there anyway, just so you can look.
Fighting types also generally have higher Attack.
Quote:
Note: On paper, 100 and 130 Attack look similar. In RPG terms, however, the extra 30 Attack does make a noticeable difference in the damage of Blisseys, especially if both use the same move with same STAB. A lower Attack can often increase the level needed for a one-hit knockout by up to 200 levels (even more if STAB isn't present). Speed is also an important factor in choosing a Pokemon.
|
Three other things increase any moves' attack.
a) an item, eg Life Orb / X Attack (there is a list of items later on)
b) levelling up the Pokemon
c) the Pokemon facing you has a weakness against that move (eg 2x, 4x)
Close Combat is good because it has 120 base Attack, is a Fighting move, is 100% accurate and Blisseys have a 2x weakness against Fighting moves.
What Fighting-types are there?
I've drawn up a list below. I'll leave you to decide!
Code:
Number - Name - Swap? - base HP - base Attack - Attack w/STAB - Defense - Speed - Ratio [base Atk : Def : Speed]
Red = has base 100+ Attack

------------------------End of lists------------------
What moveset should I use?
Close Combat
Recover
Swords Dance
Cross Chop
is the moveset I usually use. Feel free to copy or change on preference.
bigboel has suggested Drain Punch instead of Recover.
What about items?
Well.... here is a list of items you could use with your Pokemon.
Life Orb
Location: <Click here>
Cost: 3,750 or 5,000 Team Points
Function: Boosts damage by 30%, but takes away 10% of total HP each turn.
Alternative 1: Power Boost [375,000 or 500,000 Team Points] boosts damage by 10% but takes no HP.
Alternative 2: Elemental Stone* [500,000,000 Team Points] boosts damage by 50% but takes no HP.
Elemental Stone requires 1 bill TS to be available.
Team Boost
Location: <Click here>
Cost: 4 or 5 Team Points
Function: Increases amount of Team Points per battle to either 4500 or 9000.
Amulet Coin
Location: <Click here>
Cost: 38 or 50 Team Points
Function: Doubles amount of money earned per battle.
X Speed
Location: Voltorbs on Untouched Growth
Function: Increases speed stat by 10.
Quick Claw
Location: Meowths on City Limits
Function: Gives 18.75% chance of attacking first.
Exp Share / All
Location: Exp Share - Wobbuffets on Victory Path; Exp All is unobtainable
Function: Exp per battle is either shared between Exp Share holders or, if Exp All is used, Exp is given to all Pokemon on your roster.
X Accuracy
Location: Kecleons on Treepath or Memorial Caves (I think)
Function: Boosts the Accuracy stat a bit.
What do I do now?
If you've got a training Pokemon and you've applied an item, the only thing to do is visit: http://wiki.tppc.info/Training_Accounts
Find a Chansey/Blissey gym that is close to the level of your training Pokemon, put it in your 'friends' list and viola! Ready to battle it!
Defeat the Chansey/Blisseys using Close Combat!
Good luck with your training!

Increases the attack by 2 stages or so. I just use it in case I accidently click the Attack box and it picks a random move. Other than that it isn't got much purpose. xD

Thanks.
I got bored so I did this.
It took longer than you think, there was an issue with the stats being tabbed and crammed together, hence the dashes :<

I always though STAB boosted the move and not the stat itself, so it'd always be base 360 power with a fighting type on Blissey instead of 240 with any other type on Blissey.
I think I'm wrong though. D:

it wont be bad to bold the attack stat with and without stab , that way ppl will confirm their thoughts better , instead of confusing them with all the unwanted stats

considering how you only added fighting types , its wont be a waste , but do bold what you leave as attack stats

Power Boost
Location: <Click here>
Cost: 375.000 or 500.000 Team Points [Please correct me if i am wrong]
Function: Boosts damage by 10%, takes no HP.
Elemental Stone
Location: <Click here>
Cost:500.000.000 Team Points , but you need 1.000.000.000 to actually buy it
Function: boosts attack by 50%
What about Ursaring, it has a killer 130 attack stat but no added STAB

*Adds as Alternatives*
Also...
I listed Pokemon that are fighting-type.
I can see your point, but, I feel it's a bit unnessessary. :/

It basically compares the Attack, Defense and Speed proportion of the Pokemon's base stats. Often Speed is as important as Attack when choosing a training Pokemon.
