i want to keep my psyduck lv 5 but i cant beat the evogym at that level wat do i do

What i did was i hit tackle to eevee and i got killed by hyper beam then goes my 3.4k and kills the eevee in one smash and then the psyduck doesnt gain lvl and becomes golden wut ? :D
