I just watched Avatar in 3D. It was about 2 and a half to 3 hours long and I loved every moment of it. It was simply epic. The storyline was great. I wasn't really expecting this cause the games got mediocre reviews but after watching the movie I have decided to give the game another go cause the whole concept seemed really cool. I didn't get why the mineral they were extracting was so special/important to the human race (or why it was worth so much) that it was necessary to obtain it at the cost of destroying the nature exotic planet and its inhabitants.

Btw, the game got review'd that bad because it was like 10 years before the movie. or after.

Didn't get to see it in IMAX, friends were too cheap >_>

But the film was great anyway. James Cameron back in action!
Story was predictable, but the imagination behind it and the whole look of it was just amazing.

I would wait another 12 years if James Cameron keeps making movies of this calibur. There was love, sci-fi, action, drama, comedy, etc. I don't really care if it was in 3D, the movie was great. The bar has been set high for Sci-Fi/fantasy films now. let's see what hollywood comes up with now.

Refuse to spend my money on a terrible director making a terrible movie that is nothing but CGI with a lack of acting and terrible voice overs.

The movie was epic, I went to see it for the special effects, but the plot, characters, basically everything was great :D. The experience was exhilarating.

Epic movie. Loved the message, the presentation, and pretty much everything about it. Seeing it in 3D is awesome as well. Easily the best movie of 2009 and one of my all-time favorites.

Just got back, Imax was sold out, unfortunately. I thought it was pretty good.

They really shouldn't have made the photos or video from his camera 3D though. I kind of felt insulted that they didn't give any explanation for why they were 3D, when (at least as far as I could tell) his video camera was not 3D.

the whole movie was 3D. that way you could keep the glasses on the whole movie.

and Kyle, while I'd like to say that Avatar is my favorite movie of the year, I'm still impartial to Up!.

Yeah, but when they show a photo, and you can see into the photo. I really think they should either explain why the photos are 3D, or leave them flat.

Eh, it was nice to look at, but it really was an easily predictable plot.
U3, the rock they are looking for is called Unobtainium. The reason it costs so much to have is because it costs a lot to obtain. Any normal person wants what they can't have right? Same thing here.

Castform

from what I read, it seems that the Unobtainium is a source of energy or fuel. something like that.

Poseidon

From what I saw in the movie, it just seemed that it was a rock that sold for 20Million dollars a Kilogram. I might be mistaken though.

The movie itself was much better than I expected it to be. The world of Pandora was definitely well thought out, including the plants and animals. Though one thing kinda turned me off - Unobtainium. Really? You spend like a billion dollars to make this movie and the best anyone can come up with is "unobtainium"? I mean, come on!

Spiderman 2 anyone???

Anyways, I thought the movie was incredible. It seems to kind of take a shot at Bush when you think about it, unless that situation has become a general topic for movies and TV shows. I personally had trouble watching the movie because I was right in the front (my neck, ugh), but it was just so amazing to see. People say the storyline wasn't that great, but I thought it was just fine. It was definitely worth the effort that the cast and crew put into it.

Really? You think Titanic is good?

Record breaking sales came from fat insecure single mothers and teen girls. Same situation as Twilight. It is not a good movie and your appreciation for it shows your lack of understanding the field of cinema.

I don't think you seem to understand that your opinion is crushed by the fact it won 11 oscars... and since you aren't paid to be a critic your opinion hardly matters at all.

Cool story. Let's completely forget that there were no good movies that year and the budget alone was the reason they dominated.

"and since you aren't paid to be a critic your opinion hardly matters at all. "

And of course, money dictates how good you are at something.

''Cool story. Let's completely forget that there were no good movies that year and the budget alone was the reason they dominated. ''
If you expect a film to be good (it is hyped) such as titanic or twilight, then it will be considered to be so.

The Oscars are voted on by people in the industry. Public opinion doesn't matter. They give them away to the "wrong" people all the time.... Heath Ledger only got it last year because he died.

XD To be fair, Heath Ledger had performed very well in multiple roles previous to his Oscar - but dying helped.

but that was the only movie he had out that whole year. the award is supposed to be based of that one role. he won because he died.

he was better in Brokeback Mountain than in the Dark Knight

Storyline was horrible. Personally I thought it was just hyped up. Only thing I liked was the cinematic effects and graphics. Either then that, the plot seems like it was written by a 12 year old. This is not one of the best movies of 2009. There are tons that have beaten it out.

Just saw it in 2D. Plot was decent, had its ups and downs. Graphics were meh, but a must because of the storyline. Only thing I didn't like was some of the acting. Then again, I'm not a huge fan of James Cameron. Some questionable choices by the director, such as when Neytiri hesitates to shoot after making her mind. I mean, couldn't she hesitate AFTER she heard the sound of the wild beasts? Another part was where Jake came out to grab an oxygen mask..he clearly had it, and yet to drag it on he couldn't keep his hold of it as it came out.

Anyways, 8/10

I have no desire to see this. I have never been turned onto a film because of all its special effects hype. Besides that, the previews themselves look like crap to me, and my predictions have been confirmed in a few posts here.

Also, I hate 3-D films (and yes I know there's another version).

Actually, unobtainium has been referenced in some major scifi novels and movies something like six times in the last fifty years. It's this big joke that was probably originally intended to just anger the scifi buffs.

It was pretty bad movie. Storyline was easy and pretty much lame (they have that mineral, so send one guy to talk to them, but the guy prefered blue guys so he betrayed and fought with people. lame). Actually the 3D didn't shocked me as well. Okay, some effects looked good, but I was expecting something stunning (looking at budget movie had). Well, I don't watch TV, I don't go to cinema etc. and I don't know how good special effects are now, so maybe I was expecting too much?

Anyway I rate this movie 4/10 max.
