No not really, depends on what you're paying for though and how far you are from the exchange.

I only download at 450 kbp/s which is decent for my area. A friend of mine lives round the corner to the exchange and downloads at 2.2meg a second so yeah xD

that's the slowest connection this ISP do. and i download about 600 KB/s at peak times, and 1.1MB/s off peak, so...

GB/s*
MB/s*
KB/s*
B/s*

alternatively.. Gbit/s or Gb/s, Mbit/s or Mb/s, Kbit/s or Kb/s

capitalization matters, the above are all different units ;(

I hate all these different units. All it does is confuse people.

> My download speed is 100kb/s, so I can download a 100KB file in one second?
> How many MB are in a GB?
- What kind?

Oh, and American units in general are annoying (gbps, mph…).

it doesn't help most ISPs get it wrong (MBps instead of Mbps or KB instead of Kb), falsely advertising speed ..

or they get it right and their customers buy like.. 3000 Kbps packages and then they call and ask why they only have 400 KB/s download speeds

hope that didn't get too confusing ;x

KB is 8 times more than kB, and 10 times more than kib

k= kilo
m=mega
g= giga

b= bit
B=byte
ib= proper measuring in bits.

also, to the original post:
if the internet works, and all the things you do work well, then don't complain. ISPs who get people who complain about piddly things have admins like me who will lower the speed and cause disconnections for a few days just because, and we're allowed to do that.

yeah, thing is, most people, if their ISP did that, would just switch company. so any company that allowed staff to do that would prolly end up going bust.

yeah, thing is, most tech illiterate people nowadays don't even realize it or acknowledge it .. or they might blame it on something else. don't overestimate people's intelligence, it's pretty damn crappy nowadays. anyone tech-literate would probably be able to troubleshoot and solve most client-side network problems by themselves, so that leaves all the tech-illiterate people to suffer with their molested, slow network.

Out of curiosity, what ISP do you work at?

I don't any more. Got tired of the BS calls and the whining children on the phone complaining that their torrents weren't going fast enough, or that their online fps had half a ms delay too long and wanted me to magically clear the line for them.

And yes, I used to cut people off for TOS violations, I always had a reason for cutting them off. They would call in, and the secretary would state the reason, and then on a "side note" say that they should be a little more respecting to the tech the next time when on the phone.

She had a lot more nicer ways of saying it than that, to make them feel like they did bad with out allowing any blame to put on me, her or the company. Ofcourse that wasn't needed every day, just with the idiots who insisted that their $30 every month meant they were top priority.
Arrogance don't settle well with me, unless I'm the arrogant one. Never sat well with the boss either, either directed at him or our customers. I never got in trouble, and over the years I cut off lots of people. So that should say something there, hmm?

Oh, if I couldn't in good concience use TOS violation as a reason to cut them off, I would put the equipment in tech test mode. That made the secretaries job even easier; "I see the tech is working on the problem now, and if it's not working by the end of the day, we'll schedule to send a tech out" Being I was the tech, and usually the one they were mad at, (because their expectations were too high), I LOVED going on site.

Ahhhh I miss those days. Just not the idiots.
